I suppose many of you remember that fateful day when the muslim terrorists hijacked four jetliners and slammed them into the World Trade Centers, the pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. As millions remember this event today which is the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, they will probably recall vivid memories of that disastrous event.
That day many people lost their lives including heroic firefighters and police who came to the rescue. Many people lost their loved ones who were victims of this attack on America. This attack is probably one of the worst attacks ever committed by foreign individuals on American soil outside of warfare. This was a deadly, cruel, and atrocious act carried out by Muslim extremists of Al Quada.
No doubt many people are asking these questions as we remember those who have lost their loved ones: where was God when this happened? where is your (Christian's) God of love in all this? why is there death and suffering if God is all-powerful and good?
Many Christians seem to be unable to answer these basic questions that address issues that happen every day. Many people are struggling with these questions. I believe the reason for this is because many Christians have compromised the truth of the Bible with those of secular beliefs (i.e. millions of years, evolution, ape ancestors, etc.) Many Christians say, "Oh, it doesn't matter what you believe about our origins as long as you believe in Christ." And by taking that attitude, they not only destroy the basis of atonement found in Christ but also cannot answer some basic questions about reality that relate to Christianity.
But if you take the Bible as written beginning in Genesis, you can answer questions that secularists are asking. Those questions above can be answered using this approach. If you take Genesis litterally, God isn't the one who is at fault. It is we who are in fault. We sinned in Adam. The reason there is death and suffering in this world is because of one word: SIN. Answers in Genesis wrote a booklet entitled "Why is there Death and Suffering?" to provide answers to the many questions people are facing especially today as we remember the terrorist attacks ten years ago. You can read it here in pdf format.
So as you commemorate the attacks on our nation, think about your sin. We stand doomed to God's eternal justice in hell. But God in His mercy has provided a way for us to escape. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
